Loch Lohman, Fort William, Ben Nevis & The Isle of Skye suggestions pleaseCountry forums / UK & Ireland / Scotland
I and my girlfriend have 8 days to explore Scotland! So far we have plans to go to Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis, Fort William and The Isle of Skye. Has anyone got any suggestions to fill up the 8 days or is this enough? Where in the Isle of Skye is nice? and does anyone know any nice places to camp around Loch Lomond? Thanks Adz
Go how? Bus, car? Do you plan to try and climb Ben Nevis? If so will you have proper gear? Ben Nevis kills people you know. Not because it is a particularly hard walk up but because the unpredictable weather can surprise the unprepared and can/has result/ed in disaster. Fort William is a tourist town primarily with little intrinsic appeal unless you are looking to buy a William Wallace sword copy and cry 'Freedom' from time to time. The Isle of Skye has beautiful scenery and frequent rain, so I hope you are planning to pack good waterproof clothing. On Loch Lomond there is an impressive hostel to the southeast. It is a baronial mansion and comes complete with resident ghost. http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Loch-Lomond-SYHA-050009.en.htm | 1
Hi Adz, If you are camping then you have a brilliant choice of spots along the "West Highland Way" where you can be by Loch Lomond, getting a train to Milngavie is easiest, there are signs for the West Highland way from the station! I agree with above that Fort William is a bit boring n its own but I assume you are planning to stop there on the way to Skye? I would also suggest Perthshire is good to stop in but I am biased, or if you want to see some of the city as well then Glasgow's West End is lovely in summer (way better than Edinburgh!) Enjoy your travels! | 2
