| fergaaal05:49 UTC16 Sep 2007 | I am guiding a group to Ireland next month and have a problem: We are staying in hotels outside the city centres of Limerick and Dublin. So, local people, please advise me some local pubs and restaurants near: 1. The Montrose Hotel, Stillorgan Road, D4 Stillorgan, Dublin 2. The Two Mile Inn Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick
How are the bus connections to the city centers, if a group decides to leave for a pint. Is it far?
Thanx a million!

| thefuppet15:59 UTC16 Sep 2007 | Hi there,
Well the Two Mile Inn is very close to Bunratty in Co Clare-there are good restaurants and pubs there (The Red Door is FAB but I'm not sure about bringing a big group there) Also Durty Nellys is a firm favourite with tourists as it is right next to the castle, has great food and is a good place for a session or two. The Two Mile Inn is on the Galway, Shannon and Ennis main bus routes so you really should not have a problem with buses during the day going in and out of the city. However, if you are looking to go into Limerick at night the group will have to order taxis/taxi buses. I'm sure they will book these for you at the hotel reception and it should not break the bank.
Hope this helps!

| lischen_16:00 UTC16 Sep 2007 | i can't really help you with good local pubs or restaurants near the Montrose Hotel in Dublin, but regarding your question about the bus connections to the city centre, I can say it's quite good. There are several lines going from there into town. It takes around 25 mins to get in, and buses usually go every 20mins until around 11:00pm. During the night, nightlinks go every 30mins from town back (see www.dublinbus.ie).

hth,
lis

| ajpdub17:22 UTC16 Sep 2007 | Hi The Montrose hotel is about 3 miles from the city centre in an upmarket southside suburb, opposite the large University College Dublin campus. It would be about a mile or so to walk to the nearest collection of pubs and restaurants in Donnybrook, in the direction of the city centre. However the Montrose to Donnybrook is also on the main bus route and would be cheap enough by taxi even. Donnybrook has about half a dozen pubs (OK, four?) and about half a dozen restaurants including (upmarket) Chinese, Italian, Indian, The Courtyard (excellent value early bird emu for €18 - and no I am not connected!), as well as expensive places and fast food places, so the full range is catered for. Going out of town from the Montrose about 2 miles south is Stillorgan - a few pubs, more limited in restaurants, but the best Chinese in Ireland (well the Republic) is there, the Sichuan Chinese - take a bus or taxi, too far to walk! Otherwise go to the city centre where you will be spoilt for resteaurants of all types and pubs. AJP

Buses will take 5 minutes and taxis are easy to find along the dual carriageway. A taxi from the Montrose into town would probably cost you about €12 and take 15 minutes, both depending on time of day. Buses into town are frequent, cost €1.60, and can take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and such.
Donnybrook is my village. There are certainly enough pubs and restaurants and other shops to keep you occupied, but it's a suburban village- there's not really the nightlife you might be expecting in Dublin. Good for a quiet pint. But if there's a rugby game on or something, Kielys will be packed and you'll get to see that slice of the population. Honestly, it's so easy and quick to get into the city centre from anywhere along the Stillorgan dual carriageway that you may as well go into town.

The buses to the city go from the UCD side, on the accelleration lane joining the city bound carriageway. Go to Donnybrook or I would personally rather town, near the green. Not a Kielys fan.
I think the buses to the one in Limerick are the Galway, Ennis and Galway buses (presuming they all stop there, as they all drive by it). Limerick transport is not exactly up to standard so on a late night, grab a taxi. Again that place is on the roundabout I think at the start of the dual carriageway to Shannon.
