Lisbon train stationsCountry forums / Western Europe / Portugal
Hello, This July I'll be travelling to Portugal for the second time. After visting the northern areas (Porto, Guimaraes, Aveiro and the Douro region), I'll be heading to the Lisbon region and the Algarve aftewards. As the previous time I'm planning to do most of the transportation between cities by train, as it's farily cheap and pretty easy in Portugal. When researching for my itinerary I noticed I could use some hints though. More specificly from which stations in Lisbon to depart, as to not having to change all to much, as I noticed there are different train stations in the city and I don't know which ones focus on local trains, and which ones on intercity travel... Which have lots of trains a day, and which are limited. I suspect it's easier to travel to a particular station fast by metro or taxi, then departing from the closest train station and then switching trains (possibly with long waiting times). So, I'm planning to take a few days in Lisbon and doing day trips to Sintra and possibly Tomar (it should be a train ride of 2 to 2,5 hours if I'm correct? Is it 'doable' from Lisbon?). After 5 days in Lisbon, I'll travel to Lagos, a ride that should take around 4 hours? So, my questions. Which station is the best to depart from when traveling to Tomar? And which one should I take to get the train to the Algarve? Oh yeah, of it helps: I'm staying in a B&B fairly close to the Cais do Sodre station. Thanks a lot!
Which station is the best to depart from when traveling to Tomar? You can take trains to Tomar in Santa Apolonia station or in Oriente station. Santa Apolonia is more central and closer to your accommodation. And which one should I take to get the train to the Algarve? Trains to Faro depart from Oriente station. | 1
