Lhasa to Reting via Chak LaCountry forums / North-East Asia / Tibet
Is it advisable or not a good idea to go directly to Reting from Lhasa. After a trainride from Beijing, 3 days in Lhasa and a visit to Drepung Monastery on the third day, we intend to go Reting on day 4. Reting is located at app. 4100 mtr. and Chak La is at app. 4800 (some maps say 4600, others 5300??). Should I make a stop on the way, and stay in f.ex. Lhundrub at 3850.mtr., to take the worst of the hightgain? If so, are there other good places at 3900 to make a stop before Reting?
It s possible for you to go directly from Lhasa to Reting. Lhasa-Linzhou County-Reting about 250 km Lhasa-Yampachen-Reting (Could also have a detour to Namtso Lake if taking this itinerary); Namtso Lake -Lhasa 2 days required Reting is no much of interest, to be frank:) But the scenery on top of there is great. | 1
Actually there is 3 logical routes. The 3rd (and perhaps most logical = best road) is Lhasa - Ganden - Medrogongkar - Drigung - Reting. Drigung is a great valley to explore and a good acclimitisation stop if you are feeling the altitude. | 2
