LEJOG or JOGLE

Interest forums / On Your Bike

Hi all. Further to my previous lamentations about not being able to do very long tours, i'm now dealing with reality and trying to work some cycling trips into my current constraints. Since i'm going to the UK later this year I was thinking of doing this trip over about 3weeks in August/September before i start studying. Does that sound feasible (i'm thinking particularly about weather) and which would be the better route? I've read things suggesting that south to north is the best for various reasons, but with the weather getting chilly i imagine that the JOGLE option might be better. Thoughts/experiences?

thanx

If you're there in August/September, I wouldn't be too worried about the weather. Generally it will be pretty good around then. I lived in Scotland, then London for a little while, and I seem to recall it was more October that it started getting cooler. You would certainly want some sort of warm top all year round in Scotland, but nothing too serious for that time of year. It will rain on you though.

Most people do S > N cos of prevailing winds (SWesterlies). Loads of info on www.ctc.org.uk

Thanks for the replies guys.

#1: You expose my southern hemisphere weather bias: i confess to entertaining thoughts of warm, dry conditions. But i suppose it's more like aiming for months when it is less wet and less cold.... :)

#2: This is great, they have a 'LEJOG pack': will definitely by joining!

cheers
