lebanon to israel

Country forums / Middle East / Lebanon

Planning a trip to both Lebanon and Israel this December. I am traveling to these countries with my mother and mother-in-law and want to make sure we will be able to get into and out of Lebanon. I know that Lebanese officials will not let you into the country if there are stamps in your passport from Israel, therefore we are planning to go to Lebanon first then flying to Israel either through Jordan or Cyprus. Here is my question, will Lebanese officials check our departing itinerary when we enter and when we leave to see if we are going to Israel?

meow88...... Welcome to Thorn Tree. Lebanese border officials do not interview you or interrogate you, either on entering or exiting, their country. If it came up in conversation, you can tell them your plan, will be to fly ''home'' from Amman. But the topic of your onward journey, does not come up in practice.
I am not sure why you say you feel it's neccessary to fly into Israel from either Jordan or Cyprus. Most tourists just shuttle across the Jordanian land borders, easily enough from either Amman or Aqaba into Israel by taxis. Do you have a lot of air-miles to use up?

Thanks Sandyfoot. I heard that traveling to Southern Lebanon can be dangerous and thought the safest route would be to fly there. Still doing research for our trip to both countries in December.

You can't cross the border between Lebanon and Israel. It's perfectly safe and normal to go overland from Lebanon to Syria then Jordan then Israel (depending on your country you may need to get the Syrian visa before you leave home), but what #1 was referring to was flying to Amman and then crossing to Israel overland, which will be quite a bit cheaper than buying a flight from Amman to Ben Gurion.

They will not ask about your return trip and if they do just say you will take a bus to Syria or something. It is absolutely fine to go to Saida and Sur, I went a couple of weeks ago with public transportation.

Please check me out on this.

It appears I (we) can go from Lebanon to Israel on the SAME PASSPORT, RIGHT?

But what about Visas?

Do I need them for each country we are going thru?

Visas for Lebanon, syria, Jordan, and israel?

This thead has been very helpful.

Thanks so much,
Ed

edfaris...... Lebanese visa (buy at border) Syrian visa (buy multi entry visa in advance at a Syrian embassy /consulate before you leave), Jordan (buy at the border). The good news for you, is Israel will not require a visa. If anyone in Lebanon or Syria should ever ask, you can tell them ''I am flying home from Amman''. Just so we are both singing from the same hymn sheet. Do not annotate your Israeli section, in your guide book of choice, until you have travelled through both, Lebanon and Syria.
