Learning some spanish in HondurasCountry forums / Central America / Honduras
Hi all I want to learn abit of Spanish while i'm in Honduras and would like to know where might be a really cool place to do it? maybe some sort of small colonial town or village or island perhaps. only looking at a few days maybe a week. A school/place that might have the odd gringo or two could be helpful, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated cheers Jase
I've studied about a month total at the Ixbalanque school in Copán Ruinas and recommend it highly. I consider the owners, Kathy and Amadea, to be personal friends so please tell them hi from Stacey if you contact the school. The town is lovely, the ruins inspiring, and there are lots of hiking and cultural options in the mountains surrounding town. Although La Ceiba isn't my favorite place (I'm not much of a city person) the Central American Spanish School there is excellent. I also enjoyed the area around La Ceiba which is great for outdoor recreation. They have branches on Utila and on Roatán but the islands aren't good immersion environments - just great sub mersion environments. ;-) Check out my photos with blog/travelogue links below and let me know if I can answer any questions. | 1
I would also highly recommend Ixbalanque. We studied there for a week with our three children and had a great experience. The school is small with a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The teachers were wonderful and the school was great at helping us to arrange activities - like horseback riding to a nearby village. Copan Ruinas is a very pleasant, small and safe town. We loved it! | 2
Many people on Roatan prefer that you speak English. CopanRuinas is an atmospheric town with lots of good food and accommodation, and many nearby points of interest. | 3
