Le PUB. Best bar in Vietnam?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Vietnam
I had read about this bar before I came and had seen it on TV in Canada last summer. It took me a while to find, this city is like a maze! Eventually got the map from their website www.lepub.org View
The best bar in Vietnam? It's the one you're sitting in, if you're lucky enough to be in Vietnam. | 1
My vote goes to Highway 4: it's not a bar you could find in any other country except Vietnam! | 2
A 20 person bar with it's own web page. They offer their staff "social counseling" and interest free loans??? As bennies.I'm not trying to change the world just give me a beer.I'm heading up to the draft beer corner. | 3
The Tam-Tam bar in Hoi An - best pool table I've ever played on and wicker chairs when you have a sweaty ass - nice! | 4
Hanoi has plenty of good bars, especially those at the south west end of the Hoan Kiem. Plenty of others in the OQ- such as Red Beer, which brews its own beers. And of course bia hoi corner. | 5
Le Pub is good | 6 | |
Cafe latin in Saigon gets my vote.... | 7
Its hard to be objective about choosing a "best" bar however Le Pub in both Hanoi and HCM do rate highly in my book. | 8
Monkey Bar 96 on Hai Ba Trung, HCMC | 9
Plenty of good bars, the only one that I found really disappointing was Cafe Latin (sorry celestine), pretty hard to get service there, and the staff are cocky and arrogant as hell. | 10
Hanno .... maybe you didn't know the secret kangaroo handshake .....:-P | 11
#11 You mean you put your hand in someone's pouch?Never do that unless your wearing gloves | 12
:-))))) | 13 | |
Le Pub does great food. I had a few drinks at both Underground and Cafe Latin and in both places the bartenders make really strong drinks... it's as if they put double shots of everything in... I misjudged myself and keeled over too early. I'd prefer it if the drinks were cheaper and had less alcohol in them as especially the magaritas were a bit too strong. | 14
I had an evening in Le Pub Hanoi - I wasn't looking for it, didn't know to, didn't know anything about it - it just happened to be the bar closest to where I was staying. I don't know about best bar, but there were things about it that impressed me - the set up of the room out the back, the staff talking through the various drink options with customers wanting something different, the fact that I could still get a meal after midnight. | 15
#9, bad news for you. The Monkey Bar is no longer. It's a restaurant now. Rumor has it that the Park Hyatt folks had a hand in getting it shut down, as I guess they didn't want to have to deal with the scenes which would have ensued. | 16
My Vote is for Highway4 great food and leathal rice wine. Mostly full of Locals | 17
Totally agree Le Pub is the best pub in Hanoi. Found it completely by accident and had never heard of it before, but it looked inviting and my friend and I stepped in. Randomly, we sat down next to the proprietor, a lovely English guy who basically hires and trains street kids, petty criminals, ex-prostitutes, etc. who want out of that life. Gives them very rigorous standards for performance, and gives them a place to live and a job. His business is not-for-profit, which always makes me feel better about spending an extra little bit of money somewhere. Best service I received anywhere in Vietnam, friendliest staff, and LOVELY proprietor. We talked to him for more than an hour, and you can tell he had a passion for what he was doing with these kids. And to top it all off, great cold beers. Didn't try the food as we'd just gorged ourselves at Tamarind (awesome vegetarian restaurant in Old Town), but recall the menu looked tasty. Happy travels! | 18
Uh, I think you're wrong on a number of points. To my knowledge, Le Pub is not a non-profit. They do not actively, directly hire people off the streets, and I don't think they provide housing for their employees. I think you've confused this place with KOTO or Hoa Sua. Were you drunk when you heard all this? Maybe you heard that Le Pub hires KOTO graduates? LePub does do some wonderful sponsorships in Hanoi, they have always given back to the community, but I think most of your information is wrong, and I know that the owner(S) of Le Pub would not want this inaccurate representation to stand. Also, I wonder how the employees at Le Pub will feel if they discover that they have been described as 'petty criminals, ex-prostitutes, etc'. on a website read by hundreds of thousands of people. | 19
hey mookie ..... nice to see you again.... we need you round to keep this place honest ... | 20
