Lay over in Taipe

Country forums / North-East Asia / Taiwan

I have a layover in Taipei for 8 hrs next month..

Hi I am arriving from Bkk Tpe around 3pm...
What would be the best way to reach downtown Taipei? bus or train? I was told in bkk that the high speed train does not run late. Is it right?. Also any idea on what to see? What to do? I would love to visit interesting sights, temples may be some night markets if possible.. I heard about stinky tofu..

Any information is appreciate it.

thanks.

I was there for 1 night. For 8 hrs, i would suggest taxi. it is relatively inexpensive compared to other cities (about 1000 Taiwan dollars each way) and taking the bus there and back would add time...
AS for what to see, the Taipei 101 is a cool structure. If you like temples, then a walking temple tour is OK (start at Longshan Temple). I didn't get much out of it.
Also if you are arriving n the evening then i would say go to the night market in Shilin....

No train from the international airport - just bus (about 50-60 mins depending on route) or taxi (they are relatively cheap). Buses are frequent - but go to different parts. Given your short stay, try and book a bed close to a main bus terminal (probably Bus Terminal A adjacent to the main station, or the one at City Hall station). That will save you having to find you way from bus drop to your hostel via subway or local bus.
