Hello. Is it possible to obtain last minute, perhaps through an agency, tickets for Machu Picchu? Last minute opportunity to go to Peru this weekend. Intention is to travel there by railway.

If so what would the process be?

You can buy MP tickets on the official government website:

http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/

No problem to get tickets for this weekend for just MP or for MP + MP Montana. Huayna Picchu is sold out. We climbed MP Montana and loved it.
You can also buy MP tickets in Cusco and in Aguas Calientes.

You can buy train tickets online as well (Peru Rail or Inca Rail). When you arrive in Cusco take a minibus or taxi to Ollantaytambo and take a train to Aguas Calientes from there.

I hope you have some time for the other sites around Cusco and in the Sacred Valley. MP is of course amazing but there are many other great sites in that area (Ollantaytambo ruins, Pisac ruins, Moray, the Maras salineras, Chinchero, Sacsayhuaman...).

Machu Picchu? Sure. Can just buy them online or at the ticket office in Cusco or AC. The train might be harder, but it's not high season, so there may be tickets available as well. Check out perurail's website.

There are some train tickets left for Saturday, but the times are limited. Coming down a few days later is equally limiting, but there is some availability.

In short, you should be able to get tickets, but they won't be ideal times.

I've used this site before and they're great! For Machu Picchu, they basically do everything for you. Not sure about how last minute it can be, but it might be a good resource for you. It's a one-day thing where they pick you up from Cusco and have everything provided from there (bus, train, entrance to Machu Picchu) and return you to Cusco that night: <snip>
