Laos Visa - re-entering the country?

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos

I am arriving in Laos on Nov 11th for a week then flying on to Vietnam and making my way down the country then on to Cambodia. From Siem Reap my travelling companion is going to Thailand but I have a few days to play with before I plan to go to Thailand.

So I was thinking of flying to Pakse to spend a few days at 4000 islands, then going to Thailand from there.

My question is - will I be able to get another 15 day visa for Laos, even though I would've already have been issued one just over a month before? I've tried looking on the net re this but can't find much information on multiple entry. As far as I can tell I wouldn't be able to get a visa on arrival anyway at Pakse so would need to buy one in Cambodia. Can anyone confirm if this is still the case as the rules appear to change quite frequently

I've heard it's possiblr to extend the visa when in Laos to 3 days but that wouldn't be enough as I would be returning to the country more than 3 days later.

If anyone has experience of doing this/ can advise, would be really appreciated

Thanks

Sorry that shound be 30 days not 3 - the zero button on my laptop is screwed!

A Lao visa extension won't do you any good since you'll be leaving the country anyway. You could certainly fly into Pakse from Siem Reap or Phnom Penh with Lao Airlines and get a new 30 day visa even if you've only left the country several days ago. Might also consider approaching Don Det/Khon by the Mekong River from the north of Cambodia by way of Strung Treng BUT I'm not positive whether Lao visas are issued at this land border crossing. May require a visa in advance.

All visas on arrival have been 30 days since at least a year ago. You are welcome to get as many as you would like. Your visa expires the moment you are stamped out of the country so getting an extension wouldn't help. If you are flying to Pakse from outside the country you can get a visa there.

The above poster is correct, all visas are 30 days, even if you come in via the Friendship Bridge. They are single entry only so if you leave you'll either need to go to an embassy to get an new one, or make sure you come back through a border crossing that issues visas.
