Laos Visa

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos

Hi All,
First, please don't annihilate me for another VISA question. I have gone through the posts and did not find what I needed. We are travelling with Intrepid from Canada in the spring and they are advising that we have our Visa for Laos before departure. Is there a way to get one in North America from their Washington embassey? Or are there options in Canada? I have been unable to locate anything on the net. Sure would appreciate a comment.
Thanks,

You can get a Visa on Arrival at most borders and all international airports, few people get a Visa in advance, if so, most secure it Bangkok, or the capitols in the region, but why?

Maybe you should not use a tour, and do it all yourself....like 75% of the people that go there...

We did toss around doing it on our own and certainly that is how I have travelled in the past but maturity and a new spouse who has never been anywhere but Hawaii meant this time would be a little different. I don't want to scare him the first time out of his comfort zone!
Anyway, thanks to both people who responded. I will call the Lao Embassy in the morning,
Namaste,

Something sounds seriously wrong. It's the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, (even if they don't vote) I thought all Canadians had to use the embassy in Washington DC?

glorious, when I helped another poster on this forum a year ago who had problems with thier passport etc at the Lao Embassy in DC I came to realize as nice as the people on the other end of the phone were, things are extremely chaotic. If at all possible save yourself the trouble and get it on arrival.

mofa. aung sure isn't a Lao name. Doesn't mm stand for Myanmar?

Could anybody tell me if I can get a 30--day visa upon arrival or only a 14-day visa? And if get a 14-day visa, can it easily be extended? I have a German Passport, does that make any difference.
I have been trying to call the Washington and Berlin Lao embassies, but had so far no success. I would appreciate any help.

You get 30 days visa on arrival now. Just have 2 passport photos (1 is usually enough) and the fee around $30 in us dollars. Fill in the form and your done, takes about 10 mins if there is no queue.

6

Actually, you don't even need the photos: they scanned my passeport photo for one extra dollar.

Get it at the border................#2 has got Lao confused with Myanmar. If you have a choice do not use a Cdn Passport as they pay $42 ..more than any other country...........why? Probably because they are cheap ass in donating aid.

I have read mixed information on obtaining a visa on arrival in Laos from Cambodia at the Dong Kralor border crossing. I have an Australian passport. Can anyone confirm if visas as now available at this border? Thanks

Yes, 30 days Lao visa on arrival is avbl at Dong Kralor.

You have reactivated a 3.5 year old post here, the only people going to see your post are anyone who posted in reply to the original post. Would probably have been better to make a completely new post, then everyone can see your question.
