Kili experience. Lemosho route.

Country forums / Africa / Tanzania

Hello everyone!
A few days ago I finally came home from Africa, where I successfully managed to climb the Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa.

Probably these 6 days were the biggest adventure of my life, which is unlikely to forget.
I would like to show you some beautiful shots that I managed to take on the mountain. Feel free to visit my photo stream: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lata_lost/sets/72157651094924096/

And the video, which is no doubt, the most positive African video from Kili mountain.

There are funny and cheerful porters who accompanied us during the 6 days. They carry backpacks with personal belongings and equipment, tents, food and everything else. I had previously been in the mountains, but have never had any experience with so much fun, because you do not need to lug a heavy bloody backpack during all day and think all the time about your poor back and knees. In general, without support of these positively dancing guys, I would hardly reach the top. Unfortunately, my body is adapting too hardly to such a height altitude. Therefore I`d like to thank the local company Altezza.travel, who organized this tour for me.

We climbed the Lemosho route.
The round trip took 6 days, although it seemed to me that if you're good enough acclimatized, you can try to do it in 3 days. However, 6 days route was the optimum for me.
And now I'm happy back home.

By the way, I am planning to go back to Tanzania as soon as the dry season starts in June.
Maybe someone from this website wishes to join me? I`d like to return back to this country with my friends for safari and definitely Kili again, but probably new route. (maybe even Western Breach, who knows?)

Hi Eugene,

Just wanted to say that i really enjoyed your post and Photos, Great Photos! It's got me quite excited about my climb, which is in October. I too have signed up to do the Lemosho route on a 7 day trip with ActionChallenge and cannot wait!
The route itself, how did you find it? At any point did you struggle more than you expected? I read (and judging from your photos) the route is supposed to be extremely scenic and to start with remote and less busy (which for me is a good thing)!

I definitely enjoyed Lemosho. In my opinion this route is fantastic for the correct acclimatization due to starting from 3500 metres and long lasting approach on high altitude with lots of ups and downs. I cannot say that it was something unexpected for me. Ive read a lot about this journey. It was quite easy, mostly because of experienced crews support.
You are absolutely right that this route is super scenic and you always admire with the snowy peak on the route. However you should be prepared for the low temperatures during the last pitch ascent. It was extremely cold for me.
