Kerala in August

Thinking of Kerala for August with family - kids are 13 and 9. Would love to hear from any one who has been there,done that. More anxious about the climate than any thing else! Is the monsoon over? Are the beaches safe for swimming? What about food for fussy eaters! We've been to Sri Lanka in August with no problems. Thanks in advance.

Climate in July: still sunny enough to get a very bad sunburn, windy.
Swimming: not in deep water, waves are high, undertows, but refreshing is ok.
Food: most restaurants serve Western food
