Kasane for 5 nightsCountry forums / Africa / Botswana
Hello All, I will be traveling with 4 others in Botswana in late March/early April. We will be spending 5 nights in Northern Botswana, flying in and out of Kasane. We are looking for activities suggestions that will enable us to maximize our limited time and provide us with the best opportunities to see wildlife and take in the landscape. As we will not be renting a vehicle, we are also looking for recommendations on safari/tour companies. We will definitely spend time in Chobe National Park and are considering both 4x4 and river cruise options. We also hope to take an excursion to Victoria Falls. What else should we do (and with which tour operators) and where else should we go during our stay in Kasane? Cheers
The hotel in which you are staying will probably be able to suggest things to do and to organise them for you. Visits to the Chobe Riverfront are definitely one thing to do - perhaps several times. As are the river trips - you can do it in a largish boat or in a small one with just the 4 of you. In addition to 4x4 and boat trips into the NP, there are day trips to Vic Falls, fishing, scenic flights and village visits. If you want a bit of adventure - try a DIY trip to the falls : get a taxi/minibus to the Kasungula Ferry across the Zambezi, then another taxi/minibus to Livingstone - once there there is local transport down to the Falls/Zim border. You will probably have to buy (£35 for Brits) a Zambian visa which ever way you go to Vic Falls. I've stayed at the Chobe Safari Lodge a few times (camping & rooms) and it was excellent - especially the evening buffet (probably open to non-residents) - with a riverfront location and a bar (down in the campsite) which is an ideal place to watch the sunset over the river. There is a little rondavel just inside - on the left past reception - that will organises everything : they may help if you are not a resident there - in case your hotel can't help you. | 1
#1 had good suggestions, we have done similar to him. The tourist office was also helpful when we were there last time. Visit their page on Kasane which has numerous great suggestions: | 2
Oops, forgot to mention that if the group needs internet computers suggest you visit the friendly folks at Kasane Computers. Afterward, have espresso, pastries and a meal at the Gallery Africana & Coffee Bar, coffee bar & curios. We look forward to our return in June/July! | 3
