Kabale (in Uganda near the Rwanda border)

Country forums / Africa / Uganda

Kabale is an interesting place to stay for a day to position yourself to enter Rwanda (or VV). Also an easy jump off place to visit Lake Bunyonyi. We stayed at the Whitehorse in Kabale for a night--inconveniently located. A decent backpacker spot would be the Edirisa in the center of Kabale. They can provide good info for transport to Rwanda. They might hook you up with "Milton" who drives to Kigali daily to deliver newspapers. Fast, reasonably priced and he'll take you right to your hotel in Kigali.

We stayed for a couple of nights at "Nature's Prime" on the lake--a splurge but very comfortable.

I liked kabale and stayed a week

New Tree Shade hotel opposite Crane Bank single USh 10,000 much better value than Edirisa where the single room is the smallest I have ever come across. Chicken Tonight does excellent liver and chips and good place for cheap eats and drinks

Kisoro is also well worth a stop

I preferred the Amagara Guesthouse (also called Kabale backpackers) behind Crane Bank to Edirisa. We stayed at both places and the rooms were much bigger and better at Amagara, and about half the price of Edirisa. The food and service at Amagara were excellent too.

I stayed at the Kabale Backpackers when I was there last March. It was a good option, 25000/nt if I recall.
