Jungle visit from KL, but where to sleep?

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Malaysia

Hello,

We are visiting Malaysia februari 2015.
We like to visit the Jungle!

Google is great, except when you like a resort there. So hope for your aid.
We fount this: Awanmulan - Kampung Jelebu This looks fantastic, but..... It's not available on our dates, and the price, RM 650 per night is way above our budget.

After 5 days on Lankawi, we are 4 days in KL, chinatown.
From KL we like to travel max 3,5 - 4 hours.

Where can we find a nice resort e.g. nearby jungle?

We also like waterfall's caves, nature!

Help is appreciated!

In 3,5-4 hours you can reach practically any spot in Malaysia, if you fly.

There is a waterfall in Langkawi (Telaga Tujuh).

One option is to fly to Mulu via Miri:

and stay there for a few days. Great caves, nice jungle and trekking.

If you are interested in wildlife, consider staying along the Kinabatangan river:

Hello Alfredm,

Thank you for your reply!
On the 24th we fly back to Europe, the plane leaves at 23.00 from KL.
21-02 we check-out in KL, Chinatown.
That's all the time we have (left) :-)
Our initial idea was to take a taxi, bus, train or ... to ??

We are in Malaysia during Chinese New Year, this makes travel a bit more expensive.
If we want to fly to Miri, the travel price is +/- €300,- (2p)
As it's "only" for 3 nights, the Awanmulan (rate RM650 per night) is suddenly cheap :-)

On Lankawi we found a fantastic (we hope) Hotel for €32,-
A price difference of RM500 (per night) extra is not our intention.

The price of RM150 is considered high for Malaysian rates. RM650 (and way up)is extreme.
The Shorea is a kind of place we like to go, and also good to travel.
The price is in my opinion not good for me... or my bank account.

Can you tell of a place in the area of KL, with more "normal" prices?

(if this is a "normal" price for the Jungle, I guess, we need to redefine our priorities..)

Thanks!

If you want to,you could go to Taman Negara....its possible to go there for a few days. There are shuttle minibuses from KL every morning, followed by a boat ride down the river to the small town of Kuala Tahan.

KT has plenty of cheap places to stay, and it is just across the river from the main entrance to TN national park...which has plenty of 'jungle'..

This is the company I went with. You really need minimum 3 days..one to get there,at least one there (to do some walking in the NP) and one to get back to KL.

The Taman-Negara is a to far journey for us.

Hutan Lipur Jeram Toi is closer to what we like, and it looks like it has all we are looking for, except accommodation...
The city of Negeri Sembilan is close to it, and has some hotel's, but we are looking for something like the The Shorea.

It's crazy, looks like Malaysia has almost no hotels in the jungle area!
And the few that are there, seem to know this.

RM650-800 per Night... for a room without airco.

Am I missing something?
