| blackmambafive08:58 UTC21 Oct 2007 | We are looking for a nice hostel located in a safe area for around $15-20US a night. Has anyone had any experiences with Diamond Diggers or any other reconmendations?

| catherine_couturier20:43 UTC21 Oct 2007 | I slept at diamon diggers and it was OK. Some people really love it, but frankly, I think it was just fine . It's a safe neighborhood, they have a driver that can take you around, they also offers day or half-day tours. Breakfast is included and you can buy dinner for cheap. There is also some chineese restaurants in a walkable distance. they pick ytou up at the airport for free. It was a bit old so some stuff is falling appart - the dorms were not super clean and the door of the dorm wasn't locked, so better to put your stuff in their safe. I left some bags there for a couple of weeks (in their safe) and I was stolen (foreign currency that i didn't want to carry around ... but that's my fault a little bit too). It's just staff that have access to the safe but I guess that a guest could have done it while taking something from his bag or something. Oh, and the owner is a bit weird. And be carefull they charge a fee if you use credit card (as many hostel in SA) - i bought my Bazbus ticket there and the guy told me just at the moment that I had to pay - hence a 200Rand fee (it's like 10% of the transaction). So be carefull!!!
Anyways. I think it's hard to find a nice hostel in Jo'burg - everywhere in SA I found great hostel but in Jo'burg it was definitly harder
