I'm heading to Jeju in early October and I have 3 questions hopefully someone can help me with: 1) I want to climb Hallasan. Does anyone know if all the trails are currently open? Any advice on preferred trails for that time of year? Thanks
1) There are basically two trails to the crater at the top: one from the east (starting from Seongpanak bus stop on the road from Seogwipo to Jeju) which is just under 10km long. It's fairly gentle as far as difficulty and slope is concerned. You'll pass woods, azalea fields (though they won't be in bloom in October) and volcanic lava fields on route. The other one starts from the north near the temple (which name I've forgotten). This route (9km) is more scenic and more dramatic, you'll pass great lookout points, though the trail is much steeper. When I climbed Hallasan I started from the east and descended to the north. Both trails meet at the crater. I don't know of any other trails (at least not to the top). | 1
The boat from Mokpo only goes twice a day, around 9am, & 2pm. Haven't done Hallisan, but would recommend the easy walk to Sungsan Ilchulbong as a warmup: http://www.trekearth.com/members/ChrisJ/photos/Asia/South_Korea/South/Jejudo/ http://www.treklens.com/members/chrisJ/photos/Asia/South_Korea/South/Jejudo/ No idea on fishing charters, but Jeju City & Seogwipo, most likely. | 2
Thanks for the advice. | 3
