Jeju Island - any scenic sea journey getting there ?Country forums / North-East Asia / South Korea
I have the options of arriving from Mokpo or Wando and leave for Busan after Jeju Island or the other way. Is any of the sea journey scenic ? There are also 2 different ways between Wando and Jeju, one with 3 hrs plus , another one 5 hours. Which of the 4 journeys are most scenic ?
I would go to and from through Mokpo which is only about 3 hours on a high speed catamaran opposed to 12 hours to Busan. You could get a bus from Mokpo to Boseong tea plantation enroute to Busan. There was an interesting island enroute: Chu ja do and another, Jin do. Chu Ja is popular with Korean backpackers but almost unknown outside Korea. Hong Do is another but not enroute to Jejudo. Thank you chrisj, Do you know whether the ferry from Mokpo to Jeju or Wando to Jeju considered scenic or not ? | 2
I'd go from Mokpo. From memory the 2 boats leave at 9:30 am and 2 pm. The first hour is scenic traveling through an archipelago but after that boring. Coming back from Jeju I would return to Mokpo then bus to Boseong, overnight there or near there, and then on to Busan the next or even on the same day. Try the green tea icecream at Boseong. | 3
Chrisj, Why do you suggest returning to Mokpo, then to Boseong and Busan ? | 4
It's only 3 hours from Mokpo to Jeju and up to 12 hours from Jeju to Busan by boat. It's a no brainer to spend that extra 9 hours travelling overland by bus. More to see. Why Boseong? http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/South_Korea/South/Jeollanamdo/boseong/photo942543.htm | 5
