Itinerary suggestion

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Myanmar

hello, we are young couple traveling to Myanmar for the first time. We have 20 days and are flying to Yangoon from Bkk.

We want to see north first (Inle and Bagan) and than we want to go south to Mergui Archipelago and do kayaking there.

North is pretty straight forward, but south not really.

What is the best way to get down to Myeik?

Are there any agencies that organize kayaking trips or just possibility to rent one?

And after what is the best way to get to Bkk from Myeik?

Thanks a lot for your answers! :D

If you have time, make a few stops because Yangon is a looong way from Myeik. Take a bus or train to Mawlamyine, a wonderful small city. Then ride bus on a terrible road or train if possible (they often take 2x as long as buses but considering the state of that particular road, maybe not in this case) to Dawei. From Dawei if the weather is good (unfortunately I was there just as Typhoon Haiyan hit) there are speedboats to Myeik. If they are not running for some reason, the road here is mildly better than the Mawlamyine-Dawei stretch. After your tour you can return to Dawei and travel to Htee Khee for crossing into Thailand (Phu Nam Ron), where you can get transportation to Bangkok.

You can take bus or flight. The bus takes around 20 hours if you travel from Yangon. If you take flight, it'll cost you more. There are agencies that organizes adventure trips in Myeik but not many.
