Italy to Croatia

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia

Hello,
My new husband and I are planning a trip to Croatia from Italy and were wondering what the best route would be. A ferry from and to which city, price and length of travel. Is it worth flying over instead?

Any recommendations on accomodations?

Thanks so much!

venezialines.com will give you a few options.

Of course you can also go by train and bus. I took a train from Venice to Trieste and a bus from Trieste to Rijeka. (But I wouldn't have taken this route if I hadn't gone to Venice.)

Ferries: Ancona - Zadar daily about 6hrs, Ancona - Split daily about 8hrs. Price depends on the cabin. The cheapest is the deck ticket. There are day ferries and overnight ferries, depending on the day of the week.
SNAV runs fast catamaran service from Pescara to Split.
There are a few weekly plane connections from Rome to Dubrovnik and Split.

We got a flight on Croatia Airlines from Rome to Split for $99 one way. Flight was 1 hour and it worked well with our itinerary, since we were trying to do multiple cities in a relatively short time frame.
