Isla Ometepe to Managua Airport for 11am flight

Country forums / Central America / Nicaragua

Hello

I know there have been posts about making the 2pm flight but.....
If I take the 6 am ferry from Ometepe to San Jorge/Rivas could I make it to MGA by 10am (check in time for La Costena flight to BCI).

I assume I would have to pre-arrange a taxi to meet me at the port and by my research it should take about 2 hours (109 kilometers) to get to MGA. I do not, however, know how to arrange for a taxi other than via a hostel maybe.

(Ofcourse I could take the 2pm flight as well and only lose 3 hours on the island)

....and again thx for all the help in advance (hermosajoe, soniaberode)

You don't need to be at airport 4 hours early for a flight to CI.

But you never know with accidents, road closures, strikes, protest or heavy rains....

Average speed on roads is 30MPH...

I thought you were starting the trip with the Corns then hitting Ometepe in the middle of your trip then to Leon and finishing at the surf camp?
Do you have a new and improved itinerary?

You could have the place your staying at set up a taxi. Sure there will be taxi's hanging around Rivas anyway, so no problem. Ask other travelers they are going to Managua on the ferry to share the cost.

If you take the 6am you should have no problems getting to MGA by 10am if, and a big if, everything goes smoothly, it is CA and sometimes smoothly/on time does NOT go hand in hand.

Might be better to be in Granada or Apoyo Lagoon which gets nice reviews here, not sure I would risk missing the early flight.

If you are lucky there might be an express bus to Managua waiting for the ferry. Of course you then still have to take a taxi from the bus station in Managua to the airport. If you take a taxi from San Jorge to the airport you should make it in time. That would of course be much more expensive. There will be taxis waiting for the ferry in San Jorge as well. Of course you don't have much room for error with the 11 am flight.

Take the 2PM flight.

Your chances of making your flight are pretty good, leaving on the 6am ferry. And there are always taxis waiting at the pier in San Jorge when the ferry boats dock. But with only 4 hours travel time, there's certainly no guarantee you'll make your flight. Better to arrange a later flight, or stay in Granada the night before.

Ok, You guys are right. Probably more practical to take the 2pm flight.

Good memory Hermosa Joe re: itinerary.
(I might be switching the order to Home-->IO-->Corns-->Leon-->Surf camp in order to save some time, but I have to decide)

thanks

....and to all thanks for your very quick replies

go for the 2 PM flight if you must leave from Ometepe. If you get there early, maybe they let you on the 1000 if it not full. I never had no delays using taxis or buses in Nicaragua. Me, I'd perch in Apoyo lagoon the night before a flight out of Managa.
