Ishasha Ntuguwe River CampCountry forums / Africa / Uganda
Has anyone stayed here? It is NOT the Wilderness Camp. It is a 4 tent site with twin beds in each and are en-suite. Includes all meals. We do not want to camp and we do not want to pay $380 per night as it charged at the Wilderness Camp. This one is $170 for residents (us) and $210 for non residents.
This place you are mentioning needs you to have your own tent and camp. | 1
Thanks. I was referring to the one in this link: It is listed as Ishasha Ntuguwe River Camp and Lodge. Has bedded ensuite tents and is full board. I can find no other info on it other than their website. I will look up the other one you mentioned. Is it far from Ishasha and in which direction as we will head back toward the main road to Mweya? | 2
We camped with our own tent in Ishasha - the place is where the bandas are and not far from the rangers and small military camp (the border with Congo is only a few hundred yards away). Probably our favourite camp, very remote and very cheap. There is a small canteen but we had a campfire (our driver Dennis built this for us) and cooked ourselves. The bandas looked basic but okay, and there is a cold water shower and pit toilets there. | 3
Thanks. Sounds nice. But it seems no one has stayed in the bedded tents. We live here and have cold showers at home, so while travelling with visitors we'd prefer the luxury of hot. The bedded tents have hot showers and flushing toilets and all meals included. We don't want to pay the high price of Wilderness Camp and the prices at this one are much more reasonable although not cheap. Maybe these bedded tents are a new addition. There are onlly 4 of them. Guess we'll just book them and hope they are as nice as they seem. | 4
When we went to Ishasha, we stayed at the Savannah Hotel which is about ~60minutes more or less south of Ishasha (opposite direction of Mweya) as we had come from Rwanda. At that time, it was still rather new and the price was not even close to $120/night. The bandas were nice and had hot water. If you get up slightly early, you can be the first ones up and about at Ishasha. I don't know about the River camp you are refering to, sorry. We took the short, direct, dirt route between Ishasha and Mweya and found it to be fine and without trouble. There are many reports that it can be treacherous. When it rains, the road gets slippery, if you get off to the side, you might now get back on, etc. We had no trouble, but did see big lorries who had gotten stuck. We went in March/April, I believe so there was less rain then. | 5
The Ishasha Ntungwe River Camp (and Lodge) have four twin-bedded ensuite tents with hot showers which are new. All meals are included. They were added in July which is why no one seemed to know about them. I believe we found it listed in a tourist magazine. Thanks for the suggestions though. | 6
