Is KKH Open to Foreigners?Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Pakistan
Hello, Im getting conflicting reports about whether or not tourists can use the KKH right now. Can anyone verify? Schedule of several Karakoram team is also effected by this incident. Many climbers couldn't start their journey from Islamabad as they were not allowed to travel on KKH. Pakistani officials will now try to ensure safety of route and climbing areas before letting international teams to proceed. Climbers trekking on Baltoro glacier seem unaffected at the moment, as they march towards respective BCs (K2, Gasherbrums and Broad Peak). But this may change if their governments issue any kind of warning message about climbing. It's to be noted that Karakoram is located 200km away from Nanga Parbat. Baltoro glacier is regularly patrolled by Pakistan Army. http://www.jonkeverest.org/blog/2013/06/25/Post-5-76-Still-in-Islamabad-Tuesday-June-25-2013.aspx
'' It's to be noted that Karakoram is located 200km away from Nanga Parbat''............................... Fairy meadows is about 20Klms from Raikot bridge, which is on the KKH, about another 20Klms from there to NP base camp. Nothing like 200Klms ! | 1
I might add, that if you are going to recommend people to read your blog, you should try to keep it accurate and factual, Ossama Bin Laden was not 'captured' in Abbottabad, he was murdered. Nor do you travel from ISLBD to Skardu via 'Challis', the scene of last years bus massacre was the town of 'Chilas'. | 2
Re - "Ossama Bin Laden was not 'captured' in Abbottabad, he was murdered" Aww diddums! | 3

since some of information posted here by pakistanis is incorrect I recoment you contact pakistan tourist company online, they will respond with the truth within a resonable time | 6
dadima, what is incorrect information here? | 7
"since some of information posted here by pakistanis is incorrect I recoment you contact pakistan tourist company online, they will respond with the truth within a resonable time" - well, much of the information I received from my Pakistan tour operator prior to arrival on 28 May 2013 was somewhat less than the truth I was told that Gilgit Baltistan was completely safe, no sectarian violence, everything I read in the media was not true. So I wondered why my tour operator decided to come down to Islamabad in person to meet us at airport and escort us up KKH? Now I know why. Wouldn't go to GB again - if somewhere is dodgy you need to know in advance so that you can make your own decision. That's up to you. But your tour operator should be honest with you. That's what I think anyway. | 8
I did not mean a private tour company, some will tell you anything to get your business but rather the government one; pakistan tourist development company. | 9
"but rather the government one; pakistan tourist development company" - so could you let me know their website/email address, please? What is the Pakistan Tourist Development Company advising now about safety for tourists/climbers in GB and also about travel on KKH? | 10
I found their website on the web PTDC and they responded within 48 hours | 11
So what are they advising now? Please ad vise! | 12
just go to their website or use Skype to call them. | 13
So I'm requesting again, please, what is their web address? I googled Pakistan Tourist Development Company and got a Wikipedia hit for 'Pakistan Tourist Development Corporation' which says "This article appears to be written like an advertisement. Please help improve it by rewriting promotional content from a neutral point of view and removing any inappropriate external links. (March 2013). This article does not cite any references or sources. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (March 2013)" I can't get any closer than that - it would be really helpful if you could give a firm web address for the PTDC. The Wikipedia link doesn't seem very helpful. | 14
PTDC=Pakistan tourist development corporation, and you've got more chance of becoming the next Dalai Lama than contacting them on skype ! | 15
