Is June a bad month to do Pakistan?

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Pakistan

I am planning to fly into Karachi in June next year, and then travel across the country visiting UNESCO heritage sites and major cities, and ultimately leaving Pakistan to enter China's Xinjiang via the Karakoram Highway. But I also realised that this period coincides with the monsoon. Is June a bad time to travel in Pakistan? What is the risk of getting stuck in floods?

The monsoon varies from year to year, but I believe that it doesn't usually hit until late June or early July. You should be all right. I've been in Karachi when it's flooded before though, and it's certainly not a pretty sight!

Given your interests, Moenjodaro, Lahore, and Taxilla should absolutely be on your list of places to visit.

Agreed @ Giora,June is not monsoon season,it hits after 2nd week of July so there is no risk of getting stuck anywhere in Pakistan.

2

It may not be monsoon, but it certainly can rain in June, I have been stuck in Karimabad in June, because the road to the Attibad lake (ferry) crossing was washed away, you should be OK, but don't expect clear skies and sunshine everyday !!

It will be good if it's monsoon. otherwise it will be really hot in June
But don't expect rain, flood or even clouds, it will be sun most of the times and a hot sun. More than your expectations :D

June is not a bad month. The weather would be very hot in plain areas such as Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

5

Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad will be hot in June with temperatures around 35-40°C.
The northern areas, on higher elevations along KKH, will be cooler and dryer. That area is in the shadow of Karakorum and spared from monsoon.

Karim Hotel in Karimabad, ask for Moussa the driver, he took me to the China border years ago. He must still be there and drives a cargo jeep.

7

Yes,Mousa from Karim hotel Karimabad is still there, runs his hotel & drive his jeep as well.

June is the best month to travel to the northern part of Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan) and Chitral, Southern Pakistan will be hard to travel this time of the year because of its hot weather! Rainy season in the northern part of the country is July and August so there won't be any road blockage in June.

Happy Travel!
