Is it possible to rent a car in Petra and drop off at AMM airport?Country forums / Middle East / Jordan
Hello TTers, I am planning the itinerary for ten days in Jordan, and I am toying with an idea to rent a car (vehicle only, no driver) for part of the trip. Is it possible to rent a car in Petra/Wadi Musa and to return it in AMM airport? From my guidebook search it would appear that Wadi Musa is rather a small place, hence the wish to check about existence of rental agencies. Here is the rough outline of the trip, as it is shaping up now: After bus transfers Amman = > Aqaba => Wadi Rum => Petra, I am considering the following route with a rented car: Day 1: morning departure from Petra, travel north by Kings Highway (incl Shobak and Karak castles, and Dana Nature Reserve), Day 2 and 3: three nights and 2 nights stopover in Madaba (do the Dead Sea route + maybe visit to Wadi Mujib from Madaba), Day 4: skirt around Amman to go to Jerash and Umm Quasar, finally return car to AMM airport for a 3AM flight back home. Any views or suggestions ? Are there rental cars agencies in Wadi Musa and does the above plan seem doable / sensible? M/any comments welcome and thanks in anticipation Pawel
Don't remember seeing any rental agencies when I was in Wadi Musa last month, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I can't imagine, however, that many people rent there, since almost everyone who rents in Jordan rents in either in Amman or Aqaba and then drives to Petra. Unless someone posts definitive information about renting in Wadi Musa, I'd suggest you simply backtrack the short distance from Wadi Rum to Aqaba and rent there. All the major international rental car companies have affiliates in Aqaba (and you'll want one of the major companies if you intend to drop the car at the airport). Your itinerary looks fine. Plan on spending at least a couple of hours at Jerash, as the site is enormous. In Madaba I recommend the Mosaic City Hotel, which I thought was an excellent value. | 1
Hello, your trip is possible. But I am not sure that you can find a car agency in Wadi Musa. But you should ask a local firm: i.e. Monte Carlo Rent a Car: contactus@montecar.com or visit website http://www.montecar.com/Home.htm Perhaps you must pay an additional fee for pick up in Wadi Musa (for example 75 USD in Aqaba). You should think about to take a driver for one day to go from Wadi Musa via Kingsway to Madaba. Every hotel can help you. And then you can rent a car for a few days (no additional fee). Also a suggestion: It is no problem to drop off the car in Madaba in the late evening if you want to return to your hotel. Only 12-15 JOD with the taxi from Madaba to the Airport. helcar | 2
Of course it is possible but be prepared to pay premium for the service. | 3
