is Amman-Damascus train operating?

Does anyone have current knowledge as to whether the train is operating? It is supposed to operate on Mondays and Thursdays, and the Syrian and Hedjaz railway websites show that is is still operating, but various recent reports (seat61.com) suggest otherwise. Any first hand input most welcome. Also any recent experience actually buying tickets and riding--can one buy tickets in advance at Amman or Damascus stations or is it just show up and grab a seat?

The Train between Damascus and Amman hasnt been running for sometime .and not likely to resume operaton in the immditate future

I can confirm this sad fact. The train operates only charter services now - pleasure trips a few km from the station if a group of people coughs up the 600 or so dinars it costs to rent the whole train for half a day.
