Internet for a month

Country forums / South America / Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands

Greetings, I've done some homework on internet providers in Ecuador namely moviestar and Claro but their sites have given me a headache and no clear information. I will be in Ecuador no more than a month and I will be in Quito, Guayqil and perhaps one other large city. I don't need super fast only enough to power Microsoft Outlook and Skype to keep business flowing. Is there a simple thumb-drive internet access I can buy and if so where and how much?

Dear Grinninggnome,

I'm living here since 3 years... recently CNT did a prepago chip with $3 you get 15 day of whatsapp and facebook free with $5 you get 1 month (also you can get 2x1 in some places where you recharge), you can se more information here : https://www.cnt.gob.ec/movil/plan/cnt-chip-2/ also the mega is only 0.02$ in Ecuador is the cheapest !

Thank you. I am confused though looking at this site you sent me...My wife is from Ecuador and she goes there with her Israeli phone and we speak through Whatsapp and Viber with no cost on either phone.

The info you sent me would be useful for a phone but I need my laptop to get internet to conduct business.

you can buy a usb with connection but very expensive here (I gave you this info then you can share connexion from your phone to your laptop !)

Pretty much anywhere you stay in a city will have wifi, and the connection will often be better than you will get via USB. If you get stuck, there are lots of internet cafe's as well.

OP: pboae is right. While not all places offer wifi, you won't have difficulty finding one nearby. Have fun!

Thank you!
