Interesting Website and clever cartoon

Country forums / Cuba / Cuba

Just stumbled on this site looking for something completely different. It's worth a visit just for the little cartoon that expresses the attitude of those Cubanos that I know.

Walter Lippmann

Thanks for the most iteresting link, Goldilocks. Just remember one thing: at least the Iraqis got that one chance to vote.

La prensa internacional en Cuba ....

And yes David the thousands of dead and maimed coalition armed forces and iraki's are really grateful for that chance to vote!

Sorry, John. You normally make much more sense.

Point was that for good or for ill, the latter more likely than not, Iraqis did get the opportunity to choose. Cubans have yet to have that opportunity despite having been promised it by What's-His-Name almost a half century ago.

Sorry David I will blame my lack of sense on my fighting a virus which is threatening to impact on the pleasures of my imminent departure to Bali where once again I will be forced to weigh up the pros and cons of travel in SEAsia compared with Latin America. As I will have a Cubana(see this is a Cuban travel posting) with me I am looking forward to her analysis of the comparisons!
However I digress - I was trying and obviously failing to make the point that the cost of a so-called free election has been horrendous with guarentees of personal safety for anyone living in Irak(foe or friend) almost negligible. Cuba has many failings but I think we should talk about relativities rather than absolutes. However lets agree to disagree? It is back to bed time for me and my flu.
Cheers

What a fantastic cross-cultural twist, sobrino ! A Cubana visiting Bali with her Yuma. Even if you don't want to share with the rest of this riff-raff here, I sure hope you will provide me a full report.

I must admit as well that I so tire of people pretending that the apparency of some kind of election meant that the people had any real choices, and that sentiment is not limited to Cuba or the USA. Is anyone seriously prepared to tell me that any of the Democratic candidates in recent times really offered a meaningful choice? Hell, they all suck up to the same campaign-sponsoring, corporate monsters whose "idealism" can only be expressed in a spreadsheet format, but to whom ALL the "candidates" kow-tow in dangerous and embarrassing fashion. To suggest that the people of the US have been presented with any real options is nonsense. To suggest that the people of Iraq might have been given better options, well, that is absurd.

I know the argument can be raised that the process in both those countries could be said to be "better" than Cuba, but it's a meaningless distinction, not unlike being "slightly" pregnant.
