Moi: @#$% *&$#% &%$# @! But I'm not joining public rallies to burn an effigy or three yet...

| london_pilsner19:16 UTC23 Mar 2007 | Hi
Don't go burning effigies just yet, Pakistani 'fans' done that after the defeat to Ireland and demaned the murder of Woolmer and look what happended there.
Cheers

| geoffw21:07 UTC23 Mar 2007 | OP Would you rather your team was out now, or struggle through to the super 8's and be humiliated by losing the next 6 games?
| 2 |
| indianresident21:15 UTC23 Mar 2007 | if India gets into the super8 now they will definitely bounce back. I say even upto the semi finals atleast.
However, as of now they should just come home and practice and play an honest game.
| 3 |
| geoffw21:46 UTC23 Mar 2007 | The selectors should start picking the best players, not choosing someone because of which state they come from.
| 4 |
| karpediem23:22 UTC23 Mar 2007 | Ganguly affair clearly showed that India is not fit to play any competitive sport.Sport involves skill, athelitism, endurance, courage and above all in team sport unity.
India perhaps has skill in few areas in cricket ( lacks many of the attributes) but its talent is highly over rated by chauvinistic followers whipped by commercial minded Indian journalists.Blaming the players is the easiest thing anyone can do if they do not want to exercise their brain.
I think it is good riddance that India and Pakistan are kickedout because both these nations have made all aspects of this beautiful sport extremely ugly.
I can now sit back and enjoy the world cup. To start with, I do not have to hear the boring Indian commentators ( Barring Sanjay Manjrekar)
one fact though..Without Indian money, cricket will still survive.I am happy that ICC did not pressurise Srilanka to tank to safe gaurd their commercial interests though they tried their best to give India the flattest wicket in Port of spain!!
It has allowed two south asian teams who still have some respect for cricket to move to the next round.i wish them both success in this world cup.
| 5 |
| karpediem23:30 UTC23 Mar 2007 | one additional thing.Competitive sports is the only arena to test one's capability. There are no ifs and buts and no god fathers to bailout either.
I am sure our players tried their best , the effort was not lacking, they were simply not good enough. Why not we accept this fact and move on?
| 6 |
| indianresident00:04 UTC24 Mar 2007 | the politicians should give up the top sports in all sports bodies.
| 7 |
| indianresident00:08 UTC24 Mar 2007 | south africa is kicking some serious aussie butt. yet another 6 even as i write this.
| 8 |
| latisharma05:58 UTC24 Mar 2007 | if world cup is about determining the best cricket playing nation.. India didn't deserve to go beyond the first stage
and i dont think the world cup exisits to pander to unreal expectations of indian fans; however numerous!

| lawoman06:31 UTC24 Mar 2007 | Hope no one gets strangled in their bed now.

................karpediem.........that sums it up very well.

| parthepan11:09 UTC24 Mar 2007 | brilliant
| 12 |
| indianresident12:02 UTC24 Mar 2007 | i think red meat should be made mandatory for all indian players. and lots of it.
Did you see hayden, ponting, de villiers hitting, smith hitting?
what do these people eat? the ball just shot like an arrow.
i hope these 2 meet in the finals again.

| karpediem14:46 UTC24 Mar 2007 | IR... As I told you, WC will get better and better...It had hit the depth in Bob's murder..Many people in our country forget the fact that sporting activity is for enjoyment, for competing, for testing skill, nerve,to stay fit, to enjoy fresh air, mateship and what not.It is a replacement for the blood sport of the greeks/romans.
Sadly the sub continent followers whose idea of sport is to sit in front of telly, eat few samosas and jilebis and for actvity, release a few heavy farts, cannot be expected to understand what this is all about..
Now sit back after each day's work, switch on the telly, enjoy the spectacle.Y'days Aus Vs SF had a commentary team consisting of Barry Richards..how good he still sounds..Then the English game had David Lloyd,Nasser and Beefy..I miss the sourpuss Bob Willis..His biting sarcasm scorched through the ebullience of Lloyd..where is he hiding these days?
| 14 |
| karpediem14:47 UTC24 Mar 2007 | My money in this WC ? The black caps!!
| 15 |
| tiger4016:14 UTC24 Mar 2007 | but those aussies whipped south africa and surely are the best team in the world now
| 16 |
| cogitoergosum14:51 UTC25 Mar 2007 | My prediction for the semi final line-up:
Australia South Africa Sri Lanka New Zealand
I would love for Sri Lanka and New Zealand to play the final!
| 17 |
| indianresident15:23 UTC25 Mar 2007 | but its the bit complex right? with the carried over scores n stuff.
assuming that australia will win all its remaining matches. SA will win all its matches. Sri Lanka will win 4. West Indies 2/3 New Zealand 3/2.
How do the scores stack up? Remember both windies and new zealand have 2 point lead over SA.
Would Aussies end up meeting SA in the semi final?
| 18 |
| soulcurry16:52 UTC25 Mar 2007 | I'm rooting for the Lankans. Sachin Tendulkar had better be glad I'm no more a resident of Bombay.
| 19 |
| indianresident17:55 UTC25 Mar 2007 | i hate to admit it.. but it looks like Aussies all the way.. unless there is a major upset.
| 20 |
| Krismira20:28 UTC25 Mar 2007 | So much for all that built up expectations.... Yes, give them beef!
Now that India is out of WC, I heard, the kids who had to take final exams are the only happy lot.
| 21 |
| how_bizzare20:46 UTC25 Mar 2007 | y'all dont know anything... this whole thing is a conspiracy - (government of india)....

| latisharma01:53 UTC26 Mar 2007 | A billion indians could not produce a team that could advance beyond the first round.
That compares with (population)
Australia - 20million New zealand 4million Bangladesh 147 million UK (not england) 60 million Ireland 4million - South africa 44 million West indies (guess) 10 million Sri Lanka 20 million -- in many of these countries cricket is not even the most popular sport.
Sum total of population of all qualifiers = (about) 300 million
When arguably the indian players are the best paid and supposedly have stellar records.
What's amiss?
Dont even begin to talk about pressure.. Brazillians and italians seem to win soccer cups quite regularly regardless of the 'pressure' of their fans
| 23 |
| boston_man02:34 UTC26 Mar 2007 | I completely agree with this writer.
Men In White
I can see many positives for India with this early exit.
| 24 |
| karpediem10:21 UTC26 Mar 2007 | #24 - Good article
#23 - I agree.Since when have quantity really mattered over quality?
#22 - This line of thinking has gone through a well beaten path.It has always appeared in one form or other especially when India takes a thrashing in cricket!! Bunch of sour grapes.
| 25 |
| ltwharf12:34 UTC26 Mar 2007 | STRANGLE THE COACH
not only was that tried before, damn, an earlier poster beat me to it
don't burn effiges HOW ABOUT----
Transfer the coach to the Pakistani team?????????
| 26 |
| lawgone13:32 UTC26 Mar 2007 | Italy won the soccer world cup in 2006 after a gap of 24 years.....that's a gap of SIX world cups.....and in the interim, didn't even make it to the semi finals once!!! And YET, their fans continued to support them quite avidly. May be Indian cricket fans should take a lesson out of this?
| 27 |
| obstructivejaundice09:35 UTC28 Mar 2007 | lawgone saar, You are back!!!
I dont know about you guys but I have started enjoying the matches now....no tension.....just enjoying the game........
Do you think there will be a " mother-of-all-upsets" or have we finished with all that?
