Iceland early October, 2016

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Iceland

Hey there,

Going to Iceland early October 2016 and looking for open-minded travelers to share experiences and budget with! It doesn't have to be all the trip and I haven't 100% exactly decided all the places I want to visit yet - I am quite flexible. Just want to take the time to enjoy the scenery, quietness and exchange with people from different cultural backgrounds (- and hot dogs). Planning to camp.

I am French, and I have been living in China for the past 8 years. Would be happy to share stories!

...early October 2016 ... Planning to camp.

You might think of early October as being early autumn where you come from, but autumn is short in Iceland and winter could well be already coming it by this date in Iceland, though it varies from year to year. Campgrounds will largely be no longer in operation by then, although there are number that can be used informally when they are closed. But the toilet blocks might be locked up and water turned off to reduce the risk of storm and frost damage.

You should expect to experience some very windy/stormy weather, single digit temperatures most of the time, plenty of rain, some frosts at night, maybe some occasional sleet and snow. Your camping equipment better be up to all that. Or else you should have the flexibility to choose to do something else when the weather forecast indicates that camping out will be challenging or unpleasant.

Thank you for sharing those information. Am actually at the beginning of my research so all information are precious!

Even tho a rookie, I'd be open to that.

Quick update - 2 colleagues have planned to join me there at the beginning of my trip. We'll be sharing a car so there will be 1 more seat if you're interested!

Hey Julie,

I was wondering if this seat's still available? Hoping it still is. I have filed an annual leave from 8 to 24 October but I have nowhere to go. Been wanting to go to Iceland. Would love to join you guys. Still a noob, but very very keen. :)

27, will be 28 in October, Filipino, living in the UK.

Hoping to hear from you,
Charity

Hi Charity,

Well in the end, am gonna leave from Oct. 4th til 11th. Have booked a flight already and I will be leaving with a friend and someone we met on a forum. The 3 of us are French and very excited to go to Iceland!

We have already booked our flight tickets, airbnb and a car. We are currently working on a program. There is one more seat available :) Let us know so that we can discuss about timing/program with you too!

Been trying my best to sort out and swap shifts with colleagues at work. There's just this one day that I really need to attend to, and it's on the 7th :( So I am only able to do 8th to 11th, but could leave UK on the 7th. If you'd still be happy to let me tag along with you guys, I'm still keen. But if it'll be too complicated, I'm alright with that. Thanks very much! :)

Awww I see. Well let's see then because that might be a bit complicated to meet up, that'll depends where will we be and for sure, you'll have to stay longer than 4 days which means find other people to share budget/experience with from the 11th. We'll actually keep the same airbnb the whole week and travel from that point to others so it's not impossible :) Meaning you could jump in from the 8th or 9th (depending on your ETA), follow our rest of the program and then plan your own program counter-clockwise from the day we leave, what do you think?

10

Heya. I may still be able to catch up with you guys on the 8th. Would still love to tag along.
