i-to-i experiences

Hey there fellow travellers,
I'm looking at doing a story on volunteer work and whether you should be paying for it through a middle man or going solo. Therefore would love to hear of any stories negative and good, particuarly from i-to-i.

Yes, you can do a search.
In a nutshell, there are mostly negative reports about it, being that these are companies run outside of the country where you are volunteering, and they are pocketing your money for profit. You are better of, IMHO, choosing a locally run organization in the country where you would like to volunteer. You still need to do your homework, ask lots of questions, and if they are not transparent about their financials, move on to the next, so you can be assured your money is going in the places you want it.
