I Thought of This Branch at LunchInterest forums / Get Stuffed
Lol...What's wrong with this menu?
I think that the Manch-Meatloaf should come with a dollar-off coupon good on your next meal, or perhaps offered on what you call a "buy one, get one" basis. (The latter being what I would call "buy one, get one free.") | 1
NA, Next time you're in Manchester. Lunch. My treat. Anything you want off the $5.00 menu.* *Does not include beverage. | 2
Oh (raises hand, bounces in chair) Oh -- I know, I know - Shepherd''s Pie is made with lamb / mutton, not ground beef. Harking back to a previous Manch thread here | 3
Yes! You are correct. Complimentary $5.00 lunch for you next time you're in Manchester! Lol. So it's not just my family. Ground beef seems to be the default meat of choice in pies and casseroles etc. | 4
Don't let your meat loaf, Manch. | 5
BTW. NA. Is it mash potatoes or mashed potatoes? | 6
I would have said "mashed potatoes." | 7
Niner got to my pun first, damn his eyes. | 8
I think what is wrong is they are charging $3 for a bottle of water. | 9
Speaking of something wrong with a menu. What is wrong with this menu? | 10
Drunks and scum. | 11 | |
with three delicious what? I thought drunks and scum was describing the clientele | 12
I never even noticed "three delicious" when I took the picture when my kids pointed out there was scum on the menu. It is Chinglish at a Chinese restaurant in Toledo, Spain. There is nothing more beyond "three delicious". This is the complete menu on a board outside of the restaurant. My best guess of "three delicious" is the literal translation of the Chinese "三鲜", i.e. three delicious ingredients. It could be the combination of anything. Needless to say we did not eat there. It is sacreligious to eat Chinese food in Spain. We also know the food will not be good. It was in January no drunks or scum were to be found in Toledo. But that's a good one. | 13
":Three delicious" seems to show up a lot on Chinese menus, but the meaning is variable.
(That seems to the standard in the US, the exact language showing up in a number of places that don't seem to be a chain.)
There's also Three Delicious Soup, with chicken, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. | 14
Lol....What's "Chicken Cha-Cha"? | 15
It's Chicken Sha Cha. Entirely coincidentally, "Cha-Sha" is the Tibetan word for chicken (on a menu, i.e. chicken meat. veal/beef = lang-sha | 16
There is fish in Tibet? | 17
I'm with #10. Offering a $5 dollar meal and proposing to charge $3 for a glass of water is definitely weird. I'm not familiar with the US lunchtime restaurant market, but I find it hard to imagine that those who seek out the former will be interested in the latter. Is a $5 main course outstandingly cheap (as it would be here)? Edited by: fear_rua | 18
Yeah, They're a high end restaurant so 5 bucks is cheap. You don't have to get a drink though. They'll give you a glass of water for free. I think they're trying to compete with Subway and the "5.00 foot longs" | 19
I think what is wrong is they are charging $3 for a bottle of water I agree wae SiM. | 20
#18 -- You must have missed the Superbowl. | 21
Tibet stone loach, of no commercial importance, is a common fish in Tajikistan where it is present up to 4500 m altitude. It appears in the littoral of the majority of Pamir lakes. It grows to 19 cm and in high-mountain lakes it matures at a body length of 5.2-6.4 cm. It spawns in May/June at a temperature of 9-12oC. Mature females of 10-14 cm lay 1635-5036 eggs in shallow depressions on sandy substrate and cover the eggs with sand. The fish feed on benthos and plant detritus (Grishchenko, 1983). | 22
Smart Water for $3. "Hey, this tastes like just plain water, it ain't worth $3!" | 23
I was told that an Irish Pub we frequent had an excellent Shepherd's Pie so I was thinking of trying it the next time we went. But when I looked at the menu I found that it was made with ground beef. I knew that the person who had liked it wasn't a gourmand which is why I checked the menu first. I'm so glad I did. | 24
Wikipedia seems to feel that 'shepherd's pie' and 'cottage pie' are in fact synonyms, and adduces all sorts of sources in support. Scotch pie, on the other hand, definitely requires mutton. | 25
But, as Chef Ramsey stated - the shepherd in Shepherd's pie alludes to sheep, hence lamb. I think that Wikipedia entry was put in by a restauranteur who wanted to save some time and money by using ground beef instead. | 26
I love the description of Smart Water. "Vapor distilled with electrolytes." Vapor distilled is how you make distilled water of any kind. The water is boiled and the steam is collected and condensed back into water. Not only are many possible germs gotten rid of, but all minerals and other contaminants, as well as any remnants of chlorine and other disinfectants. Distilled water tastes remarkably flat and dull. It's perfect for use in a chemistry lab, because there is nothing in it to interfere with whatever you want other chemicals to do. SmartWater, according to their own web site, starts with tap water or well water, not some fancy spring, like some natural mineral waters. They filter it, distill it, disinfect with UV light, then add the "electrolytes calcium chloride, magnesium choride, and potassium bicarbonate." Then they do a final purification with ozone. You can decide if you think it's worth $3. There is evidence that water that contains some electrolytes and sugar (which is not contained in SmartWater) is absorbed faster than plain water. This is usually only of interest to performance athletes or people working in high heat. | 27
My smart water has barley and hops in it. | 28
Really? Mine has grape juice and yeast. | 29

I'd just love a big plate of Sauteen Bamboo, as Homer wold say Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! | 31
I usually drink my barley and hops Smartwater but sometimes I like grape and yeast smartwater, with an occasional nip of potato or agave smartwater. | 32
