Review inside.

I hit Todd Haynes' latest self-indulgent concept piece this afternoon to avoid the madness at the mall. The theater was a sea of ragged-haired, middle-aged pot bellies; made me feel young for a moment.

Almost skipped it after reading the NY Times Magazine's recent interview with the semiotician/auteur from Brown...
Haynes on Haynes

It definitely has its moments, especially visually, and at least the sound track is good. Unfortunately it goes on at least an hour too long, and the hysterical sequences reminded me of "Poison," not in a good way.

Highlights: Cate Blanchett, the boy who plays Woody Guthrie (if not his segment), occasionally Charlotte Gainsborough and Bruce Davidson

Christian Bale with an afro, Heath Ledger proving once again he has no talent clothed, Julianne Moore as Joan Baez looking back, and especially Richard Gere, all pretty dreadful.

What'd you think?
