Humidity in N. Laos in FebruaryCountry forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos
I want to hike and bike in N. Laos in February and I have a problem with humidity. Since it is the dry season, can I assume the humidity is low? Thanks. Olivia
Yes, it´s low, at least if you compare to the rainy season. I was hiking and biking in the Luang Namtha area in late January last year and it was a cool and comfortable climate. Have a great time and enjoy the nature of northern Laos. Janne | 1
Do you also mind air pollution? Getting into Feb the farm burning starts to build up and air quality gets bad. Smoky haze and small particles that cause respiratory ailments. It's a problem every year that affects most of interior Laos, Thailand, Burma, etc. | 2
Humidity is normally low in N Laos in winter. But I actually had rain one day in Pongsali and another day when cycling between Udomxai an Namtha early Feb this year. Also this part of the world has experienced freak weather lately. | 3
I thought the burning started in March. | 4
^Agricultural burning can start as early as December (I'm already seeing some in northern Thailand) after the rice harvest, and air quality can become a problem by mid-late February. The peak worst air though is usually mid-late March, or until some decent rain arrives. | 5
Low humidity - it doesn't start building up till about mid-march. | 6
