Hudson Valley from NYC to Montreal

I'm planning a fast roundtrip NYC -> Montreal -> Quebec -> Boston -> NYC by car with my wife and two grown up daughters. I've heard very nice things about de Hudson Valley and would like someone to recommend me the "must" to visit. The original plan is to depart from NYC. Stay one night in the middle (finest posible place) and make Montreal or nearby the second night.
