It is quite close to the airport but that also means it's a relatively cheap cabride. Walking would mean crossing a few large roads in a town not made for walking...

The youth hostel is in in Ghisais. Depending on which terminal you land in, it is between 6 (Terminal 2) to 10- 12 km (terminal 1/3). You have to taxi it.
