How to have fun in UDAIPUR

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / India

The best fun I had in Udaipur was when my local friends took me to the only dance club in the city. I don't think it is in the guide book(well, not mine anyway). It is situated on the roof top of the Hotel India International. It is 100 rupees to get in and that gets you a free drink as well. It is called MKP (my kind of place)

it is well worth going as it is soooo much fun. they play a mix of hindi and western music and it is best to go at about 8:30pm as they shut at 10:30pm.

It is about a 15 min rickshaw drive from Lal Ghat. the problem is if you get dropped off, there are no rickshaws waiting outside at the end so you have to go by bike or get a driver to take you and pay him to wait. Chances are they will come to the club with you.

I know an excellent rickshaw driver in Lal Ghat called Tiger. go down and ask for him where the rickshaws line up if you wish to see this club, but every local knows where it is. Tiger is a great guy and i recommend anyone doing business with him.

Udaipur was the best place i have ever been to in India. The locals are great and i still recommend staying at Hotel Udai Niwas in Ganguar Ghat (really close to Jagdish Temple)

Jess, if you keep recommending this place people are going to think you have some connections with the place.

I'm a moderator on another India forum, we get maybe 10 people each week pretending to be tourists who had a "great stay at hotel xyz".

I went to a rooftop 'disco' in Udaipur on New Years Eve a few years ago, it was great fun.

But I have to admit, Udaipur didn't do it for me, I though the place was overated, full of western 'social workers' patronising the locals, though the locals seemed used to it and were using it to their advantage.

Watching the locals going to work on these tourist was amusing.

I also found Udaipur very touristy. The place is nice, no doubt, but it lacks authenticity.
