How-to: Contraception Pills in UK (I'm American and moving to London)

Country forums / UK & Ireland / England

Hi, so.. I'm American and moving to London for uni. Is there a way to get free contraceptive pills without my being an EU citizen? If not, is there like a cheap place to get them (don't wanna be paying looaaads of money for them, you know).

Thanks!

If you are a student at an accredited university you can sign up with a doctor and get free treatment.

See this post - https://www.york.ac.uk/students/support/international/living/health/#eligible
And this - http://www.sussex.ac.uk/wellbeing/sexualhealth/contraception
But - contraceptives excluded, there is a charge of £8.05 for every item for which a prescription is required.

(Aren't you lucky!)

if your course is longer than six months you can use the NHS same as residents, and contraception is free including the pill.

they'll dish out some condoms which you will also need.

Agree with the above comments...

Also most universities have a student health practice associated with them so look into that first otherwise sign up at a GPs near your house. At the university I studied at international students were actively encouraged to sign up at the university health service for free NHS treatment.
