How rainy in late June, early July

We are considering going to panama for two weeks from end of June for two weeks. We realize it's the rainy season but not sure what that means. We will be going with two kids (5 and 7) so we would like to go to the islands, some hiking/visiting a jungle tour.

How rainy does it get? Hours of non stop downpour to the point where the beaches or trails are not usable? Or is it a brief rain where we find shelter and continue with our day?

Here in The Azuero Peninsula it rains on an average 2-3 a week during the afternons mostly for about 1 -3 hours.
Its refreshing!
