How bad is the damage in belize?Country forums / Central America / Belize
Hi all, We are planning on going straight to placencia(by plane) from Belize City...then the Cayo region, then Caye Caulker. It sounds like roads are disrupted inland, so I wonder if the Cayo region will not be an option. Anyone in belize with some first hand accounts? thanks

I agree with a601mom - lots of the posters there live in Belize and there are some huge threads about the state of the roads and plans to rebuild. I like the "todays active topics" page. I think you may have to fly coming and going to Placencia as the southern highway has a bridge out near Maya Centre but hopefully everything else will be good to go by then. Good luck and keep us posted! | 2
As you're flying to Placencia there won't be any problem in getting there. If you're then catching the bus up to the Cayo District, you may need to get off the bus at the Kendall Bridge, boat over the river, and then board another bus on the opposite bank, although reports are that there will be some sort of ferry up and running within the next few days. If you think that might cause problems, then maybe you could switch your Caye Caulker and Cayo segements, flying to Caye Caulker from Placencia, and then going out to Cayo on the Western Highway. | 3
There is no damage in the Cayo District and the Southern highway two bridges already are passable to traffic since the water went down by quick fix causeway type bridges. Traffic is flowing normally. FALCONVIEW BACKPACKERS ADVENTURE HOSTEL http://folkmusicfl.tripod.com/adventuresinbelize | 4
