Hotel recommendations in Santo Domingo Ometepe

Country forums / Central America / Nicaragua

Hi!

My husband and I are currently in Nicaragua (the heat is killing us!) and we're looking to book for Omtepe since we heard it gets quite busy. Looking for a room with private bath and AC! I was thinking of staying in Santo Domingo because it seems to be quite a nice area and there are other hotels and restaurant nearby, but I can't find a place with decent reviews! We've been paying 40$ a night so far, but Ometepe seems more expensive and I didn't find anywhere that made me really want to book. Any recommendations??? I do like a clean room... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

5 years ago we stayed at Villa Parriaso, nice cabinas with a AC, a very good cafe and a strong breeze off the lake was sublime, yes, Nicaragua's lowlands are hotter than heck, Granada was was almost unbearable...you need a pool to cool down there, thats for sure.

Thanks for the tip Mr. Tim. I did check out that hotel but the cheapest rooms with AC are 70$ and the reviews are only average! I don't want to bust the budget for something unless it is really worth it. Thanks though! I guess things change over the years: a great hotel can easily become a so-so one.

Wow, that is a lot...when were there it was $40, so much for Nica being so cheap...haha

Check Trip Advisor. The MOON Nicaragua is a great book.

We stayed here last month
http://www.ometepebeachhotel.com/ and absolutely loved it.

It's a little more than your budget, but well worth it. (It was actually the most we had spent as well).
The rooms are brand new and gorgeous. Walking distance to restaurants and stuff on Domingo but far enough away that banging nightclub music won't bother you.

The owners are amazing and do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. We also prefer smaller places, which is why this place appealed rather than Paraiso. Which was nice, but so many people (we tried to walk through the different places while we there).

Wow!!! I just went to check out the hotel (opened a month ago), and it looks amazing! A little out of budget but so good that we're just going to book it I think. Thanks a lot for the tip, that was exactly what I was looking for.

Tell Ros and Jonathan that Nic & Josh from Vancouver sent you! You won't be disappointed. :)

Yes, Xalli, Ometepe Beach Hotel. I was guest # 2. While it was more than I usually spend it was absolutely worth it. The rooms are fabulous, it's right on the beach, and the food is delicious. Ros and Jonathan will most certainly remember Elizabeth.
