Hi there | ||
I stayed at the Ras Hotel ... it was clean, had a good restaurant, internet cafe, etc ... and central location; hot water was usually only available in the evenings. I paid about $13 inc. bathroom (Mar. 2009). I also stayed at the Taitu Hotel ... I liked it but it had fleas in the bedding and I got tired of the piazza area (too many touts). | 1
I like the Taitu - it has a range of different room options, and is self-contained so that you don't need to go out and deal with the touts if you don't want to. It's clean, friendly and there are great views from the top floor rooms in the big building. | 2
Expensive is a relative term but i wouldn't recomend Taitu to anyone. It is full of fleas and bathroom is not clean at all and also i was not a fun of Piassa area. For almost the same amount of money you can find other guest houses near Bole. If i find the contact address of the guest house i stayed near bole, i will write u back. | 3
ezan - I stayed at the Taitu for 3 weeks (due to illness) a year ago and never encountered a single flea. There were plenty of people that also stayed there for several weeks at a time due to various reasons (adoption, work, etc). It's a nice place to stay. | 4

I know that most travelers are inclined to find a guest house or hotel that is centerally located. However, most often I stay at Emad's--30 to 60 US per night depending on the type of room--which is next to the Imperial Hotel in the Gergie district. For a guest house it is very nice; the staff are very friendly, elevator to all floors, internet is available in the rooms as well as in the cafe and they also offer room service via the ajoining restaurant. The area is quaint and quiet and taxis cost about 30 birr to get to Bole and maybe 45 birr to Piazza. Emad's has become quite popular--the last time I was in Addis they over booked so I stayed at the Jupiter Hotel which is centerally located just around the corner from the Hilton on Kashanges. The Jupiter is a new 4-star; a bit pricey but the rooms are nice--I successfully negotiated the price for several nights. Not far from the round-about at the Medhaynalm Orthodox Church--the big and new Orthodxo Church (only several years old)--you'll find the Addis Guest House. Also in Gergie you'll find the Raki Guest House tucked away in a residential area. The rate at the Raki was about 30 US per night; the Addis was a bit more. | 6
