In Amman you have to be a little choosier unless you are fine with the call to prayer going off in your bedroom at 5am. I don't know of any places to stay in Wadi Rum- hook up with some bedouin and head off to the desert. Spending the night(s) in a camel hair tent in all of that beautiful red sand is quite an amazing adventure. There are a couple of outfits in Wadi Rum that advertise on the internet. I managed to miss the Dana nature reserve, but heard that there aren't tons of cheap places to sleep there. Good luck!

Certainly not one of your 4 or 5 Star hotels, but what it lacks in "creature comforts", it more than makes up for in a friendly atmosphere. Their hospitality is commendable, and memorable. Clean sheets, hot water, and central heating as well as breakfast...what more do you really need ?!
Mosleh and his helpers, are very eager to make sure you have a memorable stay in their town. The view from the hotel looks across the town, and right down to the Siq , where the amazing rock formations can be seen from a distance...quite an erie appearance; especially at dawn and sunset. Mosleh will also arrange day trips, and we went to Wadi Rum on one such trip. A great experience, and worth while. He can also arrange a good driver to get you around - "Jamal" - who has a good knowledge of Jordan, Israel, etc and fluent English. Mosleh arranged for him to meet us at Amman airport, take us to Petra, and some days latter come back to take us up to Madaba, visiting certain places of interest along the way; eg; float in the Dead Sea, and some Crusader castles. Cheers, Marty R (Australia)
