| redhot03:42 UTC02 Nov 2007 | Hi guys,
I'm currently considering a trip in next february, starting from Hongkong and aiming for Bangkok. Therefore I wanted to get your opinions about the route I am thinking of. I'll probably have three (to four max.) weeks and am totally open-minded about where to go. Though I think the best choice would be to first go to Hanoi. What do you think about travelling alongside the beach to Ho Chi Min City and via Pnom Pehn to Bangkok? Shouldn't I miss Laos, have heard that it's got a unique atmosphere, but I am not quite sure, if the option through Vietnam would be better?
Thanks in advance for your first feedback.
Regards redhot

| redhot05:06 UTC02 Nov 2007 | Well, my post was obviously mistakable. I do not really mean to see all of these countries in 3 weeks ... I am well aware that this impossible! :)
I just don't want to start and end in Hongkong. Therefore I chose Bangkok as the most suitable departure point. So the question is, where to spend the 3 weeks on road between Hongkong and Bangkok? Via Hanoi through Laos directly to Bangkok? Alongside the vietnamese beach and through Cambodia to Bangkok?
I thought that somebody might have taken the same tour and could give me some advice on what I shouldn't miss!?

| meats05:42 UTC02 Nov 2007 | What do you want to see exactly?
How are you intending on getting from Hong Kong to wherever? By plane or overland?

| bun_cha06:26 UTC02 Nov 2007 | Right, it depends on what you want to see.
Flying HKG-BKK RT is by far the cheapest. Maybe BKK for a few days Bus to Poipet, car to Siem Reap - get there in time for sunset if you start early SR for a few days Bus to Phnom Penh couple of days Fly Saigon - couple of days there, Mekong tour Fly back to BKK
OR BKK couple of days fly or bus to Chiang Mai and around 4-7 days fly to Luang Prabang 4-6 days fly to BKK couple of days

| viet_reg06:43 UTC02 Nov 2007 | The two routes you mentioned yourself eg. through north viet, laos and Thailand
or
Viet north to south cambo then thailand are both great but will bring different experiences.
In my opinion the much more interesting and scenically diverse one is right through vietnam and cambo; however perhaps choose a flight or overnight train somewhere to accelerate, eg. to fast track some of the China part or perhaps fly within Vietnam north Han see a bit then fly central Hue see a bit then fly south HCMC then overland through cambo.
