homestay or leo palace?

Hi there,
Just wondering if it's better to stay in a homestay or rent an apartment/flat at Leo Palace?? I'm planning to go to Japan next year and was wondering which one is recommended. Also, are there websites with lists of homestays or do you find that through Japan's tourist organisation?

I will be working there for 6 months so I guess you could say I'll be immigrating short-term. Sorry I should have mentioned that.

I have been offered a place to stay by a japanese friend of mine so I'll pursue my options once I get to Japan. Thanks to anyone who was about to reply - your input will still be appreciated.
