Hokkaido in July and AugustCountry forums / North-East Asia / Japan
Hi All, I'm planning a trip with my brother to Japan for 2 weeks in July, and then I'd like to stay an additional 2 weeks on my own to explore the northern island Hokkaido. I haven't done research yet, but I wanted to buy my flight as soon as possible. Do you think traveling Hokkaido on my own (female) is safe? How easy is it to get around? Thanks in advance! Leah
Japan is one of the safest countries in the world....far safer than the US,for example. How easy to get around depends where you want to go I guess ;-)There is a train network and there are buses, and there are also budget flights to and from Hokkaido from other major cities in Japan. | 1
As above, Japan is very safe. It's pretty easy to get around as well, and very well organized. Hokkaido is big, and some parts of the island will be much more accessible than others. You might want to start your research here: | 2
In Eastern and Northern Hokkaido, public transport takes time, even express trains are rather slow. | 3
I have lived in Hokkaido since 1998. Safe. As for easy to get around, people often misjudge its size. Hokkaido is rather large. So, where did you plan to go? | 4
