Hello there! | ||
This Facebook group should be able to answer many of your questions. | 1
For hiking, Daisetsuzan. From Asahidake Onsen, for instance. There is a mountain hut on the mountain, but i don't know the snow situation in June. I guess, a lot of snow. | 2
Good sources of info on Asahidake Onsen: The Shirakabaso Youth Hostel: http://shirakabasou-asahidake.com, http://www.youthhostel.or.jp/English/c_daisetsuzan.htm or http://park19.wakwak.com/~shirakaba There's also a visitors' centre there, for the park, but I don't have the URL to hand. | 3
Thank you so much! I got in touch :) | 4

I've only been in the winter, so can't say beyond noting that I've heard of people visiting Daisetsuzan in the summer, but not Niseko. I don't know Lake Shikotsu. (Thus, don't give much weight to my advice here.) | 7
Niseko is known mostly for its skiing. Skip it in June. Shikotsu is kind of nice, with a couple of onsen around it, so you can see the lake from your bath. Marukoma Onsen is expensive, but if you have the money, it's a much nicer place than across the lake. If it's hiking you want, stay at Lake Toya. Mt. Usu erupted in 2000 and left lava to harden inside the city, and you can also hike to the caldera. Plus, about 10 minutes away is Showa-Shinzan, a volcano still smoldering and which rose in a single year during WWII. Apple orchards nearby. Toya onsen can be cheap or expensive. Look at Mt. Yotei in relation to Shikotsu and Toya. I mention it only because of the water collection area at its base. | 8
Thank you so much for this info!! Mt Yotei looks amazing :) | 9
Mt Usu is now on my list :) thank you!! | 10
