Hiking/trekking around Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, Kerman

Country forums / Middle East / Iran

Hi guys,

my husband and my humble self are going to travel to Iran in April. We plan on visiting the cities of Isfahan, Yazd, Kerman and Shiraz. But, more important, we would like to go hiking/trekking in the mountains and deserts around these cities.
We would be very happy if anyone recommended us nice spots to go.
The hikes may be rocky and hilly, but we are not going to take the equipment for expeditions in Damavand-style with us. Especially: no tent.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hey if you want to hiking in the desert and mountain,I can help you in Varzaneh.
You can hiking in the Black Mountain and Sand Hills.
What do you think??

Try to visit Meymand (Unesco site since July 2015), it is on the road going into the mountains on the left just before you reach Shahrebabak (if you are coming from Kerman). Troglodyte village and I think you would be able to hike around there as the locals are semi-nomadic themselves and go up into the mountains in summer.....

Hi Hugo,
thank you very much for your answer. For the moment, we are not entirely sure wether we make it to Shiraz, but if we do so, mount Derak sounds nice. Have you climbed it and can you recommend any routes? It looks as if it was easily reachable from town.

Hi Shervin,

Varzaneh sounds extremely interesting since we definitely want to spend a couple of days in Isfahan. Can you recommend any particular routes? Do you think we can get a map of the area in Isfahan or is it better to print it out of the internet?
